The death of Makor
Bear 6th - Bear 9th cy 2143
After the successful mission to slay Karamatsu’s dragon Anstran, Luther, Hyuga and Manix return to Admund Fort where preparations and mobilisation for war are taking place. On the sixth day of the Bear Anstran and Dismet were visited by the spirit of Loramas, Luther by the spirit of Promethius and Hyuga by the two gods themselves (see appendices).
Upon their return the party speak to Solman, Grimstock, Vladek and king Mandrigan concerning the death of the dragon and recent events. During their evening discussions Manix happens to say the name of Makor (the supposed disciple of Loramas) and they all feel the presence of the demon.
Anstran, Luther, Dismet, Manix and Solman head for the party’s chambers and are immediately struck by the large number of flies in each of the rooms. Makor’s presence is like a stench around the place and Luther decides to take direct steps. Using a power word he summons Makor before them.
Makor immediately attacks with sorcery. Luther is banished to Makor’s palace in the Plane of Depths and the battle erupts violently. Try as they might no weapon affects the demon who catches the sword arms of Anstran with little effort. He then slowly and deliberately begins to pull the duke’s arms apart with brutal, demonic force. Anstran draws upon his Ishiaki power and searches for the spiritual centre of the demons power. Upon finding this (in a small dagger), he desperately assaults this with his strange, spiritual sorcery. Makor feels this unusual attack and reacts by trying to draw the dagger. The small distraction is all that Anstran needs and he delivers a vicious, telling strike with the Blade of Gaxx that obliterates Makor.
Solman and the rest of the small group are left gaping in bewilderment at the scene they have witnessed. Dismet tries desperately to summon Luther from the abyss but is unable to gain a response. She then summons Ashavia, her surrogate mother, who informs them that Luther will now be in Makor’s dungeons being tortured. She also tells them that his spirit, soul and body will have been separated for greater effect. Finally, and worst of all, she tells them that due to the abyss’ unusual time distortion effects, Luther is even now almost forty years into the future !
The party, now joined by Hyuga, go to the academy of magic where they impose upon a demonologist called Magnar. They discuss their predicament with him and he offers various unsuccessful attempts at summoning their friend. Eventually Anstran removes the powerful orb that sits upon the pommel of his mighty sword and gives it to Dismet. Drawing upon the great power stored within she tries to reach through time and pluck Luther from his torturers. The resulting power surge smashes every pane of glass on the island. The attempt fails.
Manix takes the orb and he too tries with his power words. Again the power surge causes an awful earthquake which cripples large areas of Admund Fort. Anstran decides for safety reasons to return the orb to the pommel. Dismet, in a fit of anger, takes Hornak’s horn and stabs Magnar through the throat - killing him instantly. She then drinks the blood of her victim and storms off.
The party return to their preparations, solemn at the loss of their great friend and now uncertain as to the outcome of the impending war...
