It is twenty years since the Dark God, Malakar, brought together the Nine Facets and destroyed the Law of Banishment. At that moment he was free of the shackles of his imprisonment, at that moment he was able to step onto the world of Grayhawk. He used that time to create The Daemark - the Bridge to the Abyss - and around that he created a massive temple / palace that housed his own throne. Around that he created a massive citadel and called it Malangrad; the seat of his power on Grayhawk and the focal point of his new campaign. In the years that followed he crushed Rosen under foot and threw an army west against Illeum Runesabre and the Bretonian Empire. In that time he now controls all the northern territories (formerly Mor Meneloth) and has pushed Illeum to the brink of defeat. In the south his army stands on the border of Drenai, still ruled by Rufus the Invincible, but now boasting friends such as Hamroth and the goddess Elena, who reside in Dros Drenai.
