The Lore of Darkness
cy 2141 16th day of Earth
The Isulan religion has been split in two after recent events. The impending war has forced Isulans to choose between one side or the other - Keoland or Perrenlands - Malkam or Mordred.
You get the impression that Isulan is far from displeased with the two most important prelates in his religion - on the contrary the god has been giving reassuring and encouraging signs that diversification and fragmentation are productive within any religion. The war in Keoland has focused prayer and caused many to re-examine their faith afresh. This tends to be good for both camps.
The Keolandish force at Shiboleth is predominantly the strongest troops that Suliman has in his army. The addition of special sorcerous details within each company has helped to create a marriage of infantry, sorcerer and cavalryman in the hope that each squad has the means to deal with whatever comes against it - be it demonic or human. The Isulan priests and warriors have blended together within this structure to complete Candral’s army.
Demons seem to be pre-occupying the discussions within Shiboleth from the generals right through to the foot soldiers themselves. It is the most feared element of Mordred’s forces since by their nature they are unpredictable and ultimately dangerous. There are large numbers of Isulan priests within the defending army, however, that are demonic specialists. They try as best they can to advise, protect and inform but there is, of course, no telling what will be thrown at them.
The most unusual aspect of the Keolandish force is the growing number of vampires that are gathering at the citadel. The rate of increase is startling, particularly after the Festival of Jewels, for that night you sensed almost four hundred of them deep in the darkness. Though ordinary mortals may fear these undead greatly, Candral has given specific orders that vampire graves are to be left undisturbed. He knows full well that a vampire has no soul and therefore makes an ideal weapon against demons.
The generals and other high ranking soldiers all defer to Candral without question. If there were any doubts as to his suitability to the task then these have been long since forgotten. His word is absolute and none question his orders. In matters religious the majority of the questions go to Callirin, the archpriest of Skarvik, and he offers as much advice as he is able about demons and Mordred. There are those in the army, however, that suggest it may be you, Malkam, who is the best authority on Mordred. With every hour you remain at Shiboleth the mantle of religious leader seems to shift inexorably from Callirin to yourself.
The biggest impact upon the city so far has been the arrival of the elite Palace Guard. These one thousand men have secured the Keep headquarters and brought a certain morale boost to the nervous soldiers.
In conclusion you have the basis of a very good force indeed. The true test, however, is whether they can withstand what Mordred has to throw at them.
