The Races of Grayhawk

Elves
Allorin – these elves roam the plains of the Nadir, nomadic wanderers they are excellent horse lords. The Nadir lands are a rich and fertile land where wild horses roam free…the Allorin are considered most skilled when it comes to training horses. Int +1, Wis +1, Horsemanship, Herblore
Aquan – sea dwellers they have adapted well to both land and water. Their retractable gills allow them to breathe underwater…as well as cast. Con +1, Water breathe, swim
Ashandir – these elves live on the western edges of Grayhawk, predominantly on the western isles. Their love of all things arcane make them one of the wisest – and oldest – races on Grayhawk. Wis +1, Int +1, Arcane Language
Darak – Originally from the land of Dar Jihin (now Mer and the Dark Peaks) these tenacious, mountain dwelling folk live in the wilds and are considered excellent scouts. They are warrior-like and feel at home on the battlefield though their numbers have dwindled since the orc-god Fermat overtook their lands four centuries earlier. Str +1, Wis +1, Spec Weapon, Dodge
Eldrow – another race that harks from the Nadir plains the Eldrow are dark and evil. Slavery is their trade. Not trusted by elf and human alike where there is an Eldrow there is trouble! Con +1, Int +1, Concealment Rural
Elenorian – the most prolific of the elven races they live in the vast Elenorian forest, a green carpet that covers almost an eighth of the land. Their much criticism pogrom against the Marraqs makes them unpopular but they are the most advanced of all the races on Grayhawk. Str +1, Ride
Iolanthian – a rare breed these took to the seas two thousand years ago and became sea pirates. Few are seen today as their numbers lurk close to extinction…when encountered they are ferocious, especially on the water. Con +1, Swim, Sailing
Jarak – these elves have no homeland. They can be found virtually anywhere on Grayhawk but prefer more secluded areas such as mountains and forests. Their uncanny senses are legendary in some parts…some humans believe they can see into the future…Int +1, Dex +1, Silent Move Rural, Haragei
Jezharrain – a desert-dwelling race from the southern land of Jezharrah. Wildly unpredictable their numbers have fallen since the war against Milas the Daywalker, an elf who led the Jezharrain to war with the rest of humanity. Con +1, Survival
Kal – elven warriors. The sturdiest most human-like of the elven races. Bred for war they have mastered the arts of combat and will stand against any foe in a fight. Str +1, Con +1, Spec Weapon
Khulandir – from mid Grayhawk (the Forest of Khulan) these elves sit strategically in the heart of Grayhawk, bordering some of the most powerful human kingdoms. They took to swordplay and have exported their unique skills across the world. Dex +1, Sword skill (not katana), Dodge
Kirriaqi – a quiet contemplative race from the Haldrick Forest these are learned, wise and studious. They have a penchant for Rune Lore and many of the ancient texts concerning this art come from the Kirriaqi. Int +1, Rune Lore, Evaluate
Kuldraq – a hardy breed. These are mountainous elves and can be found in the northern realms of Grayhawk where they pursue a reclusive existence. Con +1, Int +1, Shadowing, Survival
Lantrian – a tough elven race from the Lanik Range these elves are natural trappers; they ensnare anything from game to humans and are utilised as mountain scouts by the stronger armies. Con +1, Find Traps, Silent Move Rural
Lokus – studious elves renowned for their love of history and their ability to find the secrets of ancient texts. Int +1, Wis +1, History, Sense Sorcery
Marraq – the most rare elven race. Every Marraq is a natural born telepath. This race was brought to the edge of extinction by the Elenorians, who merely succeeded in naturally selecting the strongest. Every Marraq has a sapling from the Mara tree when he or she is born…that branch grows with the elf into the fable Darkbow. More about Marraqs Int +1, Dex +1, Telepathy, Darkbow
Merkand – stamina and speed are the virtues of this race of elves. Renowned runners it is said that a Merkand can outrun a warhorse on the battlefield, or a big cat on the plains. Dex +2, Fleet Footed, Flee
Mosharak – another race from the Nadir plains these elves are scouts and trackers. They can follow trails weeks old and have an inherent ability to find a foe. Con +1, Dex +1, Follow Trail, Survival
Muhaki – the librarians of the Kulls. The ancient race of giants is extinct but their scribes and historians – the Muhaki – live on in Kulland. Int +2, History, Rune Lore, Art
Shinjiak – a western race from the old Dar Jihin. The Shinjiak were the natural enemies of the Daraks but these days both races live in harmony, turning their warlike skills against the humans and orcs who usurped their lands. Str +2, Spec Weapon
Ygran – somehow this race evolved thousands of years ago…a cross between a giant and an elf these mountainous creatures can stretch to almost ten feet tall. Str +2, Orientation, Survival
Humans
Bretonian – a race of traders and barterers is how they are described but at their peak the Bretonian Empire encompassed almost half the world. They are the brightest and most technologically advanced people on the planet, their knowledge of physics and chemistry is beyond compare. Int +1, Dex +1, Excellent Vision, Haggle
Drenai – natural horsemen the Drenai are a powerful race of humans. Their inquisitive nature lends itself to their most recent talent…spying. Dex +1, Ride, Horsemanship
Draxxian – a mountainous race these humans are rare. They are naturally spiritual creatures, able to use the sonic skill of Resonance. Int +1, Con +2, Survival, Resonance
Eldarim – these skilled humans live in the eastern land of Darim. Close links with the Darklands thousands of years ago meant that the ancient skill of the katana (the deadly single-edged sword) has become part of their culture. Str +1, Katana (30%), Dodge, Disarm
Eren – the old northern race of humans have now been absorbed into the empire of New Bretonia although there are many who would like independence from their Bretonian cousins. Con +1, Dex +1, Acute Hearing, MIning
Estallian – the cultural hierarchs of humankind. Estallians believe that they are the true race of humans and this sometimes manifests itself as arrogance. They have the most highly trained and skilled army on Grayhawk. Wis +1, History, Arcane Language
Jandraki – this race of humans harks from the Jandraki Coast, an eastern coast that stretches for hundreds of leagues. More a collection of intermixed tribes the Jandraki are generally warlike and nomadic. Dex +2, Wis +1, Spec Weapon
Kordian – from the central kingdom of Mal Korros Kordians are masters of agriculture and animal care. They have huge animal resources and trade heavily with their biggest northern neighbour – the Bratonians. Con +2, Animal Care, Animal Training
Landrian – a subrace of true Nadir these nomads are farmers first, warriors second; their knowledge of plants and the lore around them is second to none. Str +1, Identify Plants
Lionian – another of the major Nadir tribes these men trundle across the plains in huge caravans selling their wares. Dex +1, Ride, Drive Cart
Menelothian – with the death of their last emperor (Erlain) the race – which was tied by primal magic to the crown he wore – was decimated. Those that dwelt on the outer planes survived his demise and now they trickle back to the prime material plane (Grayhawk) in an attempt to regain their former glories. Str +2, Con +2, Survival, Spirit Sense
Midden – once a great and honourable nation of knights the Middenheimer lands were absorbed by the elves of Khulandir. Now the Middens are part of Estallia, their integration is slow due to the fierce pride these humans have regarding their heritage. Int +1, Heraldry, Etiquette
Myriddan – the richest kingdom on Grayhawk thanks to twenty years of rule by the fabled King of Thieves Viator Varkos. His skill with trade, the guilds of thieves and knowledge of diplomacy have elevated Myrid into a wealthy land. It sits in the shadow of the vast Elenorian forest but so rich is Myrid that it can afford to buy a sizeable army. Dex +1, Ride, Animal Training
Nadir – the largest of the nomadic tribes of the east the Nadir are the most feared. Tough and unrelenting their dogged determination makes them formidable opponents in battle. Con +2, Str +1, Survival, Spec Weapon
Nuleyn – the smallest of the nomadic tribes of the Nadir plains they are unique in that they have developed in in-built resistance to magic. Con +2, Str +1, Healing, Magic Resistance
Nyrnians - the inhabitants of the large southern island are a mixture of three races forged into one. Nomads, wandering horse lords and pirates from the Jandraki who settled years earlier. The Nyrnians are adaptable and boast one of the largest populations on Grayhawk. Con +1, Ride
Rosen – they are the Children of God – the newest deity Malakar has become god/king of Rosen and he has instilled steel in the tough humans. Formerly a haven for the undead Malakar has cleansed the land and instilled a dark desire in all Rosens…Int +1, Dex +1, Stoneworking, Berserk
Skoorlian – they are Grayhawks’ beggars. Their natural ability with trade and commerce makes them brilliant traders and their close proximity to Estallia gives them ample opportunity to try out their skills. Str +1, Beggigng
Talik – from Talkhand, an eastern realm, the Talik are renowned for their ability to track…most importantly they are said to possess great skill when it comes to tracking sorcerers. Wis +1, Follow Trail, Sense Sorcery
Tilean – a warrior race they are trained fighters and have weapons schools everywhere. Str +2, Spec Weapon, Strike to Injure (any object)
Darklander – a race of humans from across the sea the Darklanders have integrated into Kulland with the intervention of Jarik, the Lord of Balance. Although Darklanders have existed in small numbers for thousands of years it has been only twenty years since they have made a home here. Their ancient skills define combat, their sword skills are unrivalled anywhere…on any plane. Dex +1, Con +1, Katana (60%), Survival
Asharok – a race of dark humans, evil men renowned for their dalliance with demons. They herald from the Sundered Isles and like the Darklanders were brought to Kulland by Jarik during his ascension to godhood. Con +1, Str +1, Sense Demon, Survival, Follow Trail
Malangor – also from the Sundered Isles and also brought by Jarik this race is growing in the east, learning the skills necessary to survive on Grayhawk. Int +1, Sense Sorcery, Spec Weapon
