The Shimmering Blade
cy 2141 19th day of Earth
The Battle of Shiboleth
Hyuga, Lord of Vlekstaad
The two handed battle blade has rarely been quiet during the first days of the Battle for Shiboleth. It’s unusual colour changing capabilities seem to foretell of danger or warn of other impending threats and these colours range from a deep, soulless black to a vivid crimson. Each colour has it’s own specific quality, imparting upon the blade a different power or effect. As yet you have not quite defined each colours’ properties but one thing remains constant - the awesome damage it imparts to it’s hapless victims. As an experienced warrior you are accustomed to the use and effect of weapons but this blade goes beyond anything you have ever experienced.
The return of the legendary Darklander called Karamatsu seems to have lifted the spirits and morale of the defenders of Shiboleth. Even in Vlekstaad, your home citadel, you have heard of this man’s prowess with a blade. He is called Swordsaint in many lands and his reputation is known throughout Greyhawk.
His arrival, however, seems to have had a strange affect upon your mighty sword, since in the Darklander’s presence it is a subdued grey colour. With every victim you claim the bond between yourself and sword grows. It is a purely spiritual symbiosis but you are convinced that this particular blade chooses a wielder rather than the wielder choosing it. You now feel that you have gained it’s confidence and it is beginning to ‘loosen up’. It seems to have displayed only a fraction of it’s powers to you in the brief time you have wielded it, however, the arrival of Karamatsu has made it ‘moody’ and cold.
The men of Stonefist (your home country) are not renowned for their sorcery, relying more upon their obvious attributes:- strength, aggression and fighting skills. You, however, seem to have embraced this blade and have come to understand it’s nuances and subtle language. In the three days you have wielded this blade you have neither tired, nor needed any respite. With each victim you kill you seem to get slightly stronger, slightly quicker and slightly more aware of your surroundings.
In the innevitable lulls between attacks you feel calm and at peace, moreso than many around you, who fear the battle and it’s outcome...This is a quality in part due to the shimmering blade’s spiritual effect upon your soul. You may not understand magic but the you can understand that there are several very powerful magical forces happening around you and the blade - it is as if you have been ‘chosen’ for some task or by someone great and powerful.
You have leisure to observe the way in which Karamatsu conducts himself and the affect he has upon those around him. He has the most impressive ‘presence’, more than any other man you have ever met (more than most demons, too !!) and you are distinctly aware that he is keeping a close - although very discreet - eye upon your movements. For some reason this does not disturb you, merely makes you even more curious.
