Viators 20 year plans. (cy 4824 onwards – today’s date cy 4863 – 39 years later. Viator abdicated 19 years ago)

Within 5 years.

Consolidate position as leader of all thieves’ guilds of Grayhawk, paying particular attention to those difficult parties not yet on board. "All thieves know who I am – and believe it or not all thieves pay more than just homage to my position. For every tax, tithe or tariff in every land from east to west I get a share of…be it gold, silver or copper. I am – without question – the richest man on Grayhawk."

Continue building army. "The army of Myrid was growing under my leadership but the advent of the steward, Valadain Raikos, accelerated this process. Now Myrid hides a hidden giant – an army swelled and trained by the Godslayer himself."

Information network, both home and abroad must be watertight. "I took my lead from the Drenai in this respect. Thieves make good spies, so good I have altered the language of thieves ever so slightly – a subtle change to accommodate my needs. Now I can take information from any corner of the world with the speed of the telepaths. There are no secrets when the thieves’ signs are used."

Putting in place a system to pick up the brightest, most ingenious thieves from around Grayhawk. "They are ensconced in every single guild on Grayhawk; some do not even know that their allegiance lies with me. With one word, one gesture, one simple sign their minds will open to the realization that they are my protégés. There is no city on Grayhawk where I do not have allies."

Monitor effects of Muziel in Kingdom. Should it be apparently a problem, then arrange to meet Muziel and have the ‘You stay out of my business – and I’ll stay out of yours’ talk. "This one has proved more elusive than I had anticipated; for I have heard nothing of him since my abdication."

Make advances to Gundren (Grand Bretan), for a possible marriage of state. Plying on the diplomacy with her Uncle? The King of Rosen to ease the politics. "This came to nothing…politics is an unpredictable animal at best."

Invite the ‘Lost Races’ Daraks, Marraqs, etc. Any race that has no homeland to reside in Myrid. "Van Myrid boasts one of the most cosmopolitan regions on Grayhawk with all races seeking to settle. Although Jarik Saal showed the world the true way to unite refugees from all corners of the planet."

Learn sorcery from Hamroth. "My dear old friend, oldest of the Glaennyn and most powerful of their sorcerers. It is true that now I serve two masters; or perhaps just one. Sorcery and thievery are surprisingly close bedfellows. Hamroth was a true master teacher – he opened my eyes to a world of wonder and gave me different avenues to explore. Grandmaster and Mage…"

Within 10 years.

Training the elite thieves as diplomats, beaurocrats, politicians, and economists, to create a whole new professional class of ‘civil servants’. Most promising students creamed off even further. "An ongoing process. As I have said earlier there are few palaces, few governments, or indeed few religions that I have not infiltrated at some level. My influence is total."

Make more international advances to other kingdoms in the region. All the while, stay ‘apparently’ uninterested about the Elenorian forest. "Politics overtook me once more. I left the king-building to Valadain – I discovered that as a figurehead I was powerful but as a hidden economist I was unstoppable!"

Have an heir or two, especially if they are from the womb of Gran Breton. Of course, if the marriage of state occurs, then we may need to chat. (Probably, in the same vein as Pete, sow a few wild oats for posterity and few game legacies). "I am blessed with virility beyond my years, for the number of my children can only be counted by the score! It pays to have influence everywhere – and if that influence is blood then all the better!"

Have a good clear out of Muziel influences. "I divested myself of all that was unclean many years ago, I don’t even get paranoid when I see a smartly turned collar any more."

Invite adventurers, mercenaries and opportunists to clear the Olshay Range of the major dangers. "A fanciful idea. I stopped sending them after a few years because they never returned! There are no economies in that infernal mountain range."

Build a fleet of well-armed trading ships, and develop the eastern seaboard as a major sea trading locality. "Trading ships, pirate ships and freelance merchant vessels. Add to this hidden coves and secret inlets and you have some idea of what I meant. Hell’s Bay is one of several such communities along the eastern coast…I realized early on that a man with a throne is vulnerable; but a man with a series of hiding places is truly a king!"

Within 15 years

The great ‘tax’ (the Black Tax) on Grayhawk will eventually be recognized, so resources need to be exploited. Creating a series of ‘Gold-Rushes’ (Klondike) and Silver-, Platinum-, and anything else valuable- rushes for that matter. But monopolize on to whom these resources can be sold. "My true gift to the world. But I was wrong about the Black Tax – I had envisioned a time when my deceit would be discovered but the Black Tax itself took on a life of its own. It was so lucrative to every kingdom that it was sanctioned by kings and governors everywhere. They dared not abolish it in case their funds dried up! Imagine it…corruption at a governmental level on a scale so large that it could not be stopped!"

Visit the Darklands, unbeknown to anyone (other than Jarik), and buy / steal some lavish, secluded holiday castle in the mountains (with a large, secure treasury). "I have built hideaways in the Darklands – it was where Hamroth taught me sorcery. I have a great affection for that land…"

The very elite civil servants to be trained in espionage, to find their way into most of the major governments, to influence the flow of capital around the world (namely into Viators pocket). "As I have said I cannot help but make money from the influential men and women I have in governments all across Grayhawk. With one word I could bankrupt any government!"

Within 20 Years

Elite, trained thieves to tie the Grayhawks economies in knots. In the doctrine of ‘Harry never holds’ applies where one countries treasury is actually held by another country, with only Viator knowing exactly where the real money lies. "And that is exactly the key to my success – some say that the treasure is close but no-one other than me will ever know the true extent of my wealth. When I die all the economies of the world will collapse and Grayhawk will be cast into chaos!"

Make the plains of Myrid the largest agricultural area known in Grayhawk, with extensive irrigation constructed providing water from the Great Lake to the west. Myrid will become the so-called ‘Bread Basket of the North’. "One of my few failed attempts. Valadain the Godslayer had other plans for the great plains of Myrid, though it is good to see his love for horses."

With a large army, huge agriculture, vast natural resources and major links to all the worlds economies, declaring that Myrid be a ‘Free State’ for five years, in recognition for all the hard work that the population has performed. This should generate huge interest in trade as the ‘third great profit-making scheme’. "Another failed venture, though as you can see I modified my goals when I realized the true worth of being invisible. Valadain Raikos is a better king. He is also a better target than me!"
